Dear EGAP Registry users,
We are writing to update you on the status of the EGAP Registry. See below for important information on the New Submission Process.
Backlog and Delays
Earlier this year we initiated a transition to a new system hosted on the Open Science Framework (OSF). We know that since that time some of you have experienced delays in seeing your registrations posted. Please be assured that all submissions are stamped with the date and time of your initial submission email, and will bear clear indication of said date/time. We expect to finish processing the backlog by the end of September. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the status of a registration, please contact us immediately so that we can address it. For those who have already tried to reach out, we apologize for any delays in updating you.
Status of Transition to OSF
When the EGAP registry was created in 2011, it was designed to support a few dozen submissions per year. With annual submission counts in the order of several hundred per year, a new system was necessary to ensure the integrity of registration data and ease of submission. Thus,, staff at EGAP and the Center for Open Science (COS) have been working to migrate the EGAP registry to the Open Science Framework (OSF). By housing the registry at OSF, we gain the opportunity to increase the sharing of accurate and transparent information on research projects, and allow EGAP Registry authors to continue to upload information related to the project post-registration.
In 2020, we migrated existing studies in the EGAP-hosted version of the Registry to OSF, which you can view here: https://osf.io/registries/egap/discover. During the months since, we have worked to update the method of displaying studies in OSF, as well as build out the submission and moderation workflows necessary to allow registry users to submit their designs directly to the Registry, without the intermediate step of sending to EGAP staff to upload.
New Submission Process
We are happy to announce that the new submission workflow is up and running, and new registrations can be submitted directly to OSF via this link: https://osf.io/registries/egap/new.
For instructions on how to submit your work directly to the registry, please see here: https://egap.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/20210506_submission_help_guide.pdf.
After submitting your design directly to OSF, it will enter a moderation queue where it will be reviewed by EGAP staff within 5 business days. In most cases, the submission will be approved, posted to the registry, and you will receive an email confirmation, but if there are any glaring reasons that prevent that, it will be sent back to you with a comment indicating what needs to be updated before it can be posted.
Thank you for your patience while we work to improve the registry and set it up for years of continued growth.
Best,
EGAP
