Rafael is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Universidad Católica del Uruguay (UCU). He received his PhD in Political Science from UCU in 2014. Rafael has published numerous refereed articles in Spanish-language journals, as well as a number of book chapters. Most recently, he wrote a chapter in Transitions to Democracy A Comparative Perspective (ed. Michael McFauland and Kathryn Stoner-Weiss) entitled “International Influences on Democratic Transitions: The Successful Case of Chile.” His research focuses on Latin American political development and election practices, especially corruption and party politics.
