Innovations for Poverty Action discovers and promotes effective solutions to global poverty problems. In close partnership with decision makers — the policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors working with the poor around the world — IPA designs and evaluates potential solutions to global poverty problems using randomized evaluations, the most rigorous evaluation method available. IPA also mobilizes and supports these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale. Since their founding in 2002, the results of IPA research have improved the lives of over 50 million people around the world.
Institutional Representative: Doug Parkerson, Regional Director, East Africa and Latin America
Doug Parkerson has been with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) since late 2005. From 2006 to 2010 he headed IPA’s program in Bolivia, based in La Paz, and from 2010 to 2013 he lead the rapidly growing program in Uganda. During that time he designed and managed dozens of impact evaluations and led policy dissemination events and trainings. In 2013 he returned to IPA’s global office in New Haven to direct new project development and serve as regional director for East Africa and Latin America.
Mr. Parkerson’s current role with IPA is as a senior researcher focusing on consolidating and building upon promising innovative research through field replications and extensions of successful studies in new contexts. His current work focuses on approaches to empowering citizens to monitor service providers and hold them accountable in East Africa. He also provides a leadership role on IPA’s research transparency initiative and setting research quality standards. He holds an MA in Sustainable International Development from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
