FHI 360 is an international nonprofit working to improve the health and well-being of people in the United States and around the world.

We partner with governments, the private sector and civil society to bring about positive social change and to provide lifesaving health care, quality education and opportunities for meaningful economic participation. We do this by using research and evidence to design and deliver innovative programs that change behaviors, increase access to services and improve lives. 

Our staff of more than 4,000 professionals work in more than 60 countries. Their diverse technical expertise and deep understanding of local conditions provide a 360-degree perspective that allows us to develop customized responses to the toughest human development challenges.  

Institutional Representative: Annette Brown, Principal Economist

Annette N. Brown, PhD leads the Research and Evaluation Strategic Initiative at FHI 360, the mission of which is to grow the visibility and portfolio of FHI 360’s research and evaluation work across sectors and promote an organizational culture for evidence generation and use. She also serves as editor-in-chief for the R&E Search for Evidence blog.

As the Principal Economist at FHI 360, Annette N. Brown, PhD leads efforts to promote FHI 360 thought leadership, especially in research and evaluation, and build an organizational culture of evidence generation and use across all sectors and regions. She is a member of FHI 360’s expanded leadership forum and the editor-in-chief for the R&E Search for Evidence blog. Prior to joining FHI 360, Dr. Brown headed the Washington, DC office of the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and served on its executive team. In that role, she oversaw a variety of programs, including the organization’s HIV and AIDS impact evaluation grants windows and its research transparency initiatives. Earlier in her career, Dr. Brown worked at both for-profit and not-for-profit development implementers in roles that involved research, strategy, program management, business development, technical assistance, and measurement and evaluation. She was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Western Michigan University, and has held research positions at the World Bank and the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics. Dr. Brown is the author or co-author of several articles that have been published in social science and public health journals. She has a doctorate in economics and Master’s in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Michigan.
