FHI 360 is a global organization that mobilizes research, resources, and relationships so that people everywhere can access the opportunities they need to lead full, healthy lives. FHI 360’s staff of over 4,000 experts work in more than 60 countries around the world. For more than 50 years, FHI 360 has developed bold solutions to global challenges and created measurable results through research and application of scientific breakthroughs. FHI 360 listens to, learns from and works with communities to strengthen social cohesion, expand economic equity, improve health and well-being, strengthen resilience, and respond to crises. By bringing together deep expertise and diverse perspectives, FHI 360 collaborates with partner communities and peer organizations to build enduring networks and expand collective impact. In all activities, FHI 360 advocates for access and equity for people everywhere, enabling them to create their own paths forward. FHI 360’s expertise and experience include research and programming in democracy and governance, economic opportunity, education, environment and climate action, health, humanitarian response, and nutrition and food security.

Institutional Representative: Annette Brown, Chief Strategy and Evidence Officer

Annette Brown, Ph.D. is an economist and organizational leader with more than 25 years of experience in the field of international development, including multiple positions at executive and senior management levels. She has worked in corporate, nonprofit, and multilateral organizations and in academe. Her research and program experience spans most development sectors, including economic growth, democracy and governance, and global health. Brown has worked in more than thirty countries and advised government policy makers in all regions of the world. She has been a director on two non-profit boards, the management liaison to board committees in her current and past job, and member of international advisory groups.

She is currently the Chief Strategy and Evidence Officer at FHI 360 and a member of the executive team. She is also the Editor-in-Chief for the R&E Search for Evidence blog. Earlier Brown served as FHI 360’s Principal Economist. Prior to joining FHI 360, Brown established and headed the Washington, DC office of the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and served on 3ie’s executive team. Earlier in her career, she served as a Director at Chemonics International and as the Center Director for International Activities at the Urban Institute. She was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Western Michigan University, and she has held research positions at the World Bank and the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics. Her publications include dozens of journal articles, book chapters, and public reports. She earned her Ph.D. in economics and Master’s in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Michigan where she was a National Science Foundation Fellow.
