DFID Presentation — EGAP + The Metaketa Initiative
June 15, 2020
What works? Where? And why will it work in the future? Answering the big questions: lessons from EGAP to support strategic evaluation
Chaired by Head of Profession for Statistics Paula McLeod
DFID has funded rounds II-IV of EGAP’s highly innovative “Metaketa Initiative”: running a coordinated set of randomized control trials with each evaluation testing a similar intervention in a different context. Once completed, findings are brought together into a meta-analysis to examine the intervention’s effect across contexts. This innovative method is a rigorous way to learn about where and why a development intervention works, and to better predict where and why it will work in the future.
On June 15, EGAP’s Executive Director Cyrus Samii spoke to DFID’s Evaluation Unit about the Metaketa Initiative, its pros and cons and what EGAP has learned. An essential session for statisticians and evaluators as we work out how to implement strategic evaluations across countries, considering if, how, and when we should standardize outcome measures and how we can learn what works in what contexts.
