Scott Williamson

Scott Williamson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and International Relations and a Tutorial Fellow in Magdalen College at the University of Oxford. His research explores sources of popular support for authoritarianism and democracy, attitudes toward migration and foreign aid, and the politics of the Middle East. He studies these topics primarily through surveys, experiments, and fieldwork. Scott’s book, The King Can Do No Wrong: Blame Games and Power Sharing in Authoritarian Regimes, was published by Cambridge University Press in 2024. His research has also been published in journals including Science, the American Political Science Review, The Journal of Politics, and Comparative Political Studies. Scott received his PhD in political science from Stanford University in 2020. Previously, he was an assistant professor at Bocconi University, a postdoctoral fellow at New York University Abu Dhabi, and a junior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment from International Peace.
