Title Lawn Signs: Voter Mobilization in the 2018 Elections

C1 Background and Explanation of Rationale Prior to the November 2018 general elections, a randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted to evaluate the effect of lawn signs on turnout in three CO congressional districts. Unlike prior studies of lawn signs, which focus on persuasive messages, this one focuses on messages designed to encourage turnout.
C2 What are the hypotheses to be tested? The principal hypothesis is that precincts assigned to treatment will feature higher rates of turnout. We will also investigate spillover effects onto precincts adjacent to treatment (following the same procedure as the Green et al. 2016 article in Electoral Studies).
C3 How will these hypotheses be tested? * WLS regressions following the same procedure as Green et al. ES 2016. One modification is that we will use instrumental variables to address noncompliance. Another modification is that we will assess whether the re-randomization procedure implies different probabilities of assignment to treatment, in which case the WLS procedure will take that that into account.
