Tolga Sinmazdemir is a senior lecturer in the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Before joining SOAS, he worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Bogazici University, Istanbul, and spent a year as a fellow in the School of Public Policy at LSE. He received his Ph.D. in Politics from New York University in 2012. His main research interests are causes and consequences of ethnic conflict and violence, with a special focus on the Middle East. Currently he is working on projects that examine Syrian refugees’ political attitudes as well as the attitudes of host societies towards Syrian refugees. His work has been published or forthcoming in Political Geography, Journal of Peace Research, PS: Political Science and Politics, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, and Review of Middle East Studies.
