Marinov's research is at the nexus of international relations and domestic politics. His book pursues the question of what happens when elections turn proxy wars, in which great powers intervene to promote their allies. He has published research on coup d'etats, on international security, on foreign aid and economic sanctions. He received his BA from the American University in Bulgaria, his PhD in Political Science and a Master’s in Economics from Stanford University. He has been a visiting fellow at the University of California at Los Angeles and an Assistant Professor at Yale University.
