What happens at EGAP meetings?
EGAP meetings present the opportunity to make connections within the field; increasing access to policymakers, researchers, and implementing organizations. They contain methods teach-ins, research design and paper consultation sessions, and plenary presentations on cutting-edge social science research topics. The meetings occur approximately three times per year. Attendance at one meeting per year per member is advised, but members can occasionally attend more frequently.
Who decides each meeting’s attendees?
Each year, all EGAP members submit their preferences for the 3 upcoming meetings, as well as proposals for anything they wish to present. The meeting hosts and their committees make the final decisions regarding attendance based upon a review of past meeting attendance, desire to present, and overall participation in EGAP
Do I have to pay to attend EGAP meetings?
Each member is reimbursed for travel and lodging expenses up to $1000 per meeting. Members based in non-OECD countries can receive up to $2000. Only one representative per EGAP institutional member will be allowed at each meeting.
Who sets each meeting’s agenda?
Each meeting has an agenda committee consisting of that meeting’s host(s), along with 2 or 3 additional EGAP members who are attending the meeting. The committee reviews all presentation proposals and sets the agenda.
I have a research design in mind, and would like feedback from fellow members. How do I get it?
One way is to present a design proposal at a meeting. However, if the timing doesn’t work out, or if the agenda is already full, there is a peer response process that is guided by a core feedback committee and chaired by EGAP member Betsy Levy Paluck. To initiate a request, simply fill out this form. Within one week of the request, a member of the committee will assemble a few other EGAP members with expertise on the topic, and convene a quick meeting on Skype, Google hangout, or over the phone.
Once the project is complete, can EGAP help me disseminate the results?
Results from member’s research are shared with policymakers, NGOs and development agencies through our policy briefs series. These briefly summarize research and help make the research accessible to policymakers and organizations. If you would like to have some of your research posted in this form, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the research attached. We will prepare a brief of the paper and send it to you to edit and offer comments before it is posted online.
I’m interested in making connections with policymakers working in the areas I research. Can EGAP facilitate that?
Throughout the year we also periodically convene policy meetings with institutional members and other agencies/organizations. EGAP members often initiate these meetings; if you have one in mind, let us know at email@example.com. We are always looking for participants that are interested in the topic or the training so we will send around emails to the membership looking for volunteers when the meetings are in the planning stage.
I heard that EGAP runs principal investigator (PI) trainings; can I participate in those?
Yes! You can view the past Learning Days events here. We are working on planning several more Learning Days events over the next few years. If you are interested in scheduling a training with a specific university or organization, or would like to be a Learning Days instructor, please let us know. What methodological support does EGAP provide?
Methods guides serve as EGAP's “how-to” behind key methodological aspects of experimental research. The topics covered range from the simple, to the logistical, to the very technical. They are very popular on the website. You are invited to write a methods guide or to suggest topic ideas. To do so, email EGAP's Methods Manager, Matt Lisiecki (email@example.com).
Can I preregister my research designs through EGAP?
The EGAP research design registry is an online database for submitting research designs and pre-analysis plans. The designs include experiments and observational studies on the topics that EGAP covers. To register a design, please visit the site and complete the registration form. Doing so provides an automatic timestamp for your submission, which will then be reviewed prior to publishing.
