Laura is an associate professor in the Department of Government in the School of Public Affairs at American University. She is also a non-resident fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD) in Washington, DC. Her research is in the fields of comparative politics, the political economy of development, and political psychology. Her most recent projects examine how different sources of revenue (such as natural resource rents, foreign aid, and taxes) affect political behavior. She also studies the causes of group-based social divisions and strategies for improving intergroup relations. Laura’s empirical methods involve experiments, the collection of original survey and behavioral data, and extensive field research, most recently in Indonesia, Colombia, and Lebanon. She received her Ph.D. from Columbia University.
