Elisabeth's research focuses on peacebuilding, development and education in conflict-affected contexts. Using research methods ranging from in-depth qualitative methods, to surveys and field experiments, her recent projects examine how schools, youth programs, and community-driven development interventions really work (or not) for people in the Global South. She has conducted field research in Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Philippines and elsewhere. She is author of From Classrooms to Conflict in Rwanda (Cambridge University Press 2014). Other recent work has appeared in Journal of Peace Research, World Development, and African Studies Review. Elisabeth holds a PhD in political science from the University of Toronto (2008). She was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at Columbia University and a fellow at the Balsillie School of International Affairs. She has consulted for such organizations as International Rescue Committee, UNICEF, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
